I think the biggest difference between the entertainment industry here and in the US is that connections are so important here. I think it would be very hard for someone to self-produce an album, send it to radio stations and become popular, get signed to a record label and become famous. another problem is that there are fewer record labels than in the US and music studios are fewer too. In the US, it would be easy and not too expensive for me to hire a studio, a studio band and a producer and make an album.

Also, especially these days, it seems like the government gets involved and people worry about the image of KAzakhstan. I don't think a heavy metal band or rap band that sang about being gangsters would find it easy to get played on the radio, nor a folk-singer who sang about problems in Kazakhstan, or painted an uncomplimentary picture of the nation. But I don't know a lot about the scene here. look forward to reading this blog more and learning!
